Synopsis
When her best friend dies, Samantha Brown is paralyzed with grief and loses touch with the part of herself that was learning how to take risks. Now, she must wade through the memories of her senior year in order to take the first risk of her adult life.
This smart, funny, moving show unfolds at a deliberate, confident pace like a good mystery, and we love that about it: it asks how one of the “good kids” who has it all and has done everything right can end up just as confused, lost and frightened as the rest. The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Bro • Say The Word – The Unauthorised Autobiography of Samantha Brown The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown has music and lyrics by Brian Lowdermilk; book and lyrics by Kait Kerrigan; additional book and concept by Zach Altman (2009) is a musical written jointly by Kait Kerrigan and Lowdermilk. Kerrigan initially wrote the musical for an all student production at Barnard College but later re-worked the musical with the assistance of Lowdermilk for a wider audience. The plot involves the upcoming graduation of high school class valedictorian, Samantha, who must decide what she wants with her life and how her parents, her friends, and her boyfriend, Adam, fit into her life. Samantha Brown is supposed to leave for college today. She sits in her car with her bags packed, but she can’t turn the key in the ignition. She is filled with doubts as the defining moments of her senior year flash through her mind. Somehow Samantha has to come to terms with her parents’ expectations, her first love, and a lost friendship before she can turn the key and make the first decision of her adult life.
