Michael Waldner
Michael Waldner, age 98, beloved father, grandpa and great grandpa, passed peacefully into eternity on June 3, 2021.Mike was born February 13, 1923 to John and Sarah Waldner, at Bon Homme Colony, SD. He married the love of his life, Rebecca Waldner, on November 14, 1948. The Lord blessed our parents with 69 years of marriage, 7 children, 40 grandchildren, and 96 great-grandchildren.
Our father was a good example of whole hearted dedication to God in all that he set his heart and hands to do. He found great fulfillment in keeping himself occupied with hard work and enjoying his many hobbies. Dad loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly. He faithfully and lovingly took care of our mother till the time of her passing, and it is with love and honor that we did the same for Dad. Our father loved the Lord greatly. He would often express his appreciation to God for all he did for mankind. Lifting his voice with praise and thanksgiving to the Lord for sovereignly guiding his life and for blessing him with good health and a clear mind till the end. What a legacy our father is leaving behind for his posterity. We love him deeply and will greatly miss him.

Though drawn to poetry, which he composed fluently in French and Latin, he took to the Law, one of the few callings open to Huguenots. His only son, Etienne Le Fanu de Montbénard, another poet, also became a lawyer. Appointed Avocat de la Ville, he was ennobled by King Henry IV in 1595 whose Edict of Nantes three years later promised toleration – freedom of conscience and of worship – to all his Huguenot subjects.
